Every year on the first of October McDonalds returns with Maccas Monopoly which allows their customers to win $578 million in prizes. These ranging from a Volkswagen Polo GTI, $10,000 worth of ICONIC gift vouchers, a year of free petrol, free food and so much more.
This limited promotion always encourages customers to upsize their food meals to double the amount of tickets they will receive. Everyone was made aware that Monopoly was back as the company promoted it on social media and television.

The prizes can only be claimed through the MyMacca’s app which makes customer have to download the app in order to participate. The app was downloaded 70,000 times in July of 2022 and that number would have increased when Monopoly commenced.
By doing so it also makes more people registered in McDonald’s loyalty program on the app. Therefore, encouraging more people to purchase items from the restaurant in order to gain enough loyalty points to claim free food. As well as making more people aware of limited-edition prices items and discounts.
Having the beginning of the promotion advertised on social media increases the awareness of their customer base which is predominantly parents and teenagers. Having the option to win “free stuff” draws customers to purchase more frequently from the restaurant. Customers like the idea of getting sensation of joy when they get something free with their purchase. This is because humans want something of value for the price of nothing which will leave them satisfied with their purchase. Therefore, advertising something as “free” increases the sales for the company due to the excitement associated between a 1 in 4 chance to win something free and the restaurant.
